Researcher Reception – Government House, 12th May 2011
Cure Cancer Australia held our annual Researcher Reception on Thursday 12th May at Government House, Sydney.
The 2011 researchers were presented to Cure Cancer Australia Patron, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC, CVO, Governor of New South Wales. Guests heard first-hand about the progress made by our 2010 funded researchers and enjoyed meeting the other 2011 research grant recipients. Cure Cancer Australia also farewelled two Board members, Professor Martin Tattersall AO and Stewart Ewen OAM. Martin and Stewart were thanked for their exemplary contribution to Cure Cancer Australia over a considerable number of years.
Cure Cancer’s contribution to the sector over the past 43 years is now in excess of $15million with over 300 young researchers funded, with many early career researchers who gained funding through us currently amongst the most respected researchers in the country.
We are very proud of our history and it was wonderful to share the exciting plans we have for our future with our researchers and our valued supporters.

Researcher Breakfasts and Lab Tours Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane
Researcher Breakfasts and Lab tours events are held quarterly by Cure Cancer Australia Foundation and Can Too, with two in Sydney and one each in Melbourne and Brisbane annually. The purpose is to bring supporters together with the researchers they fund, an opportunity to showcase the institute and the work of the researchers. Researchers funded by Cure Cancer Australia are invited to lead lab tours and meet supporters.
These are special events and participant numbers are kept small, allowing for questions and answers. They provide an opportunity for Cure Cancer and Can Too to thank both supporters and researchers for their work. A lab tour is incorporated so the researcher can show their work environment and perhaps let people look down a microscope or see specialized equipment in action.
The supporters who are invited have raised money specifically to fund early-career cancer researchers, and these Researcher Breakfasts and Lab Tours give them a behind the scenes look in the lab and meet a real-life researcher.
